Some years ago somebody did a study on what is the most physically demanding sport. What do you think? American Football? International Soccer? Chess?
Well they said it was off road motorcycle riding. Really, true story. Well I think so. For pro's to be good you have to train like an animal.
"For 30-plus weekends a year, you literally need the strength of a powerlifter, the grace of a gymnast, the endurance of a marathon runner and the mentality of a Las Vegas poker player to succeed at this."
I am not a pro or even close, I do like to ride. But it had been awhile. I hadn't fired up the mighty mighty 380 KTM in more than a few months. Yesterday I met some friends at the off road park in Hollister. Today I can confirm the results of that study. Top to bottom, legs, back, arms, neck, a little sore everywhere.
(Tuesday update: today even the muscles on top of my feet hurt. It hurts to wiggle my toes!)
But as you can see it was lots of fun!

Matt, all around good guy and wrench.
Charlie Rauseo, multi Dakar racer and finisher and head of Team Rally Pan America.
Charlie and Robb are a little bummed to be home so soon, they should have been in Mauritania this weekend. But since the Dakar Rally was cancelled we all hooked up in Hollister.
As Charlie likes to say, it was "Fun Fun Fun!"

I did a little interview with Charlie and Robb about the events leading up the the 2008 Dakar Rally getting cancelled and their plans for doing some rally races in other parts of the world. Robb also talks about some of the cool hi tech gadgets he has ready to use for email, web updates, and video uploads from the middle of nowhere.
